157TH ANNIVERSARY LIVING HISTORY EVENT
On March 19th, Bentonville Battlefield will commemorate the 157th anniversary of the largest battle ever
fought in North Carolina. Join us from 10:00–4:00 for a day of free living history demonstrations, informative
talks, and family activities! Make plans to stick around or come back for our illumination event, “Peace to the
Gallant Dead,” which begins at dusk.

'PEACE TO THE GALLANT DEAD:' 157TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION
For the first time ever, witness over 4,000 luminaries light up the battlefield in commemoration of each of the
casualties of the battle of Bentonville on the 157th anniversary of the first day of the battle. This illumination
event will begin at 6:30PM with the last ticket sold at 9:00PM. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $8
online or at the Visitor Center. Tickets will also be available day of the event for $10. You can purchase tickets

BENTONVILLE IN BLOOM
Explore the natural side of Bentonville during our spring program, Bentonville in Bloom. Learn about the plants
and wildlife that call eastern North Carolina home. Experience Spring at Bentonville! This program is an

SATURDAY, AUGUST 20, 2022 AT 10 AM – 4 PM
HEAVY THUNDER: SUMMER ARTILLERY PROGRAM
Hear the roar of cannon fire! Learn how cannons were loaded and fired during the Civil War. Reenactors will be
onsite portraying a Confederate battery. Firing demonstrations and historical discussions will occur throughout
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2022 AT 10 AM – 4 PM
LIFE ON CAMPAIGN: INFANTRY PROGRAM
Join us for a day of learning about infantry soldiers and their life on campaign! Reenactors will be onsite
representing the men of the 33rd Ohio regiment. Firing demonstrations and historical discussions will occur
throughout the day. Bring family and friends to learn about uniforms, drill, soldier’s equipment, and the brutal
realities of war.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2022 AT 10 AM – 4 PM
Bring the family and celebrate fall at Bentonville Battlefield! Planned activities include wagon rides, old timey
kids games, music, townball (19th century baseball), historic demonstrations and more! Bring a blanket or chair
and listen to live music.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2022 AT 10 AM – 4 PM
A CIVIL WAR CHRISTMAS
Come celebrate a Civil War Christmas during this Holiday event. Visitors can enjoy cookies and cider by the
fire, period music, or stroll through the soldier’s camp. Decorate for Christmas by painting your own ornament
and bring it home with you!
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2022 AT 5 PM – 8 PM
IN HEAVENLY PEACE: CHRISTMAS 1865 CANDLELIGHT TOURS
This holiday season, you are invited to tour the home of John and Amy Harper as it may have appeared after the
conclusion of the Civil War. For the first time ever, experience the Harper House as a family residence, not as a
Civil War field hospital. Come enjoy the beauty of a 19th century Christmas aglow with candlelight. Also enjoy
period refreshments in the kitchen and sing carols by a warm campfire. Tickets are limited, do not miss your
chance to experience Christmas by candlelight at Bentonville Battlefield!
